TTC: The Beginning

Writers are chicken, it’s true. We have our noses in deep to pen and paper, or our eyes glued to the computer screen as our fingers fly over the keyboard, isolated in our own little world, not coming face-to-face with others. But writers are brave, too—we bare our hearts and souls in the shape of words. What so few people dare to discuss in public, we describe in excruciating, intimate detail, to be scrutinized from every facet like a well-cut diamond.

The following posts account for my 18 months of Trying to Conceive (TTC) before I am met with success. The sections are broken into the cycles that I tracked with Basal Body Temperature (BBT) charting. Some people try for longer; some don’t really have to “try” at all. To those who are not yet and have no desire to be parents, these concepts may seem foreign, like too much work for an outcome not guaranteed. To those who have started this journey or have braved it for a while, this may seem heartbreakingly familiar.

Along with my accumulated knowledge, I would like to share a message of hope. Nothing is quite so isolating as feeling like you are alone on a rough road since it’s taboo to talk about due to its intimate nature. To those of you who are curious to learn a little more about infertility—to those couples who have struggled and especially the ones that are struggling, please know that I think of you all, I wish you success, and by sharing my story, I hope you feel that you are not alone.
